Heroes and Unlock Status
Compare all seven announced GrimKeep heroes, identify the two starters, and separate confirmed demo availability from unverified unlock requirements.
FAQ
Which heroes are available from the first run?
Was The Feral in the demo?
Are the exact unlock requirements for all seven heroes confirmed?
Which heroes can you choose at the start?
The Beast and The Huntress are the two choices explicitly confirmed for the first run. Their different reroll rules give you a useful starting decision without relying on any unlock. The other five belong to the published roster, but their exact unlock requirements are not fully documented in the inspected sources.
Start with The Beast if you want to study health-paid rerolls, or The Huntress if you want to study unused-reroll carryover. Those are playstyle suggestions, not a win-rate ranking.
How do the seven published heroes compare?
Compare starting resources and the condition attached to each perk before copying a build. A perk that needs sixes, a degraded combo or an enemy above a health threshold rewards a different decision. The official roster is a reference snapshot rather than proof that all seven were playable in the demo.
| Hero | Starting HP | Starting gold | Published rule to plan around |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Beast | 250 | 10 | Extra rerolls cost 10 health |
| The Huntress | 200 | 50 | Unused rerolls persist between attacks |
| The Feral | 150 | 200 | Each 6 in an attack adds 1 Mult |
| The Once Prince | 100 | 800 | Health fully recovers after combat |
| The Prisoner | 150 | 300 | A degraded combo adds 50 Combo Points and 1 Mult |
| The Tailor | 170 | 1,000 | Against enemy health above 2,000: 50 Defense and 3 Mult |
| The Dunce | 150 | 200 | Starts with seven dice and four item slots |
These values come from the official hero roster, checked November 4, 2026. They are not a promise that an older demo build or the eventual release has identical balance.
The table is useful for choosing a rule you understand:
- The Beast and Huntress ask what another reroll costs.
- Feral asks whether your submitted attack actually contains sixes.
- Once Prince’s listed recovery occurs after combat, so it does not itself explain survival during the fight.
- Prisoner’s bonus depends on the game recognizing a degraded combo.
- Tailor’s printed threshold is more than 2,000, not “2,000 or more.”
- Dunce’s extra starting die comes with a smaller listed item-slot budget.
For the role of different special effects, use the dice guide.
Which heroes were actually part of the October demo?
The official FAQ names three demo characters: Beast, Huntress and unlockable Feral. That is narrower than the seven-character roster. The October 27 developer announcement says the demo ended, so older “play now” copy on the FAQ does not establish that it is currently available again.
| Availability question | Confirmed answer |
|---|---|
| Initial heroes | Beast and Huntress |
| Other named demo hero | Feral, unlocked through play |
| All seven in the demo? | Not established; the official FAQ names three |
| Exact full-roster unlock checklist | Not provided by the inspected official pages |
| Full-game launch | Planned for November 30, 2026; recheck official status |
See The Feral guide for her published perk and a clearly bounded calculation example.
How should you handle an unverified unlock claim?
Check the version and original source before spending runs on a claimed condition. A community comment can identify a question worth researching, but it does not establish a current rule for every build. This page deliberately leaves exact conditions unresolved where the official material does not supply them.
If your installed version shows an explicit requirement, record its exact wording and the version alongside your progress. If it does not, use the developer’s official community links to ask with a screenshot rather than assuming a number from a launch preview.
A useful report identifies the locked hero, version, displayed condition if any and what action failed to register. Do not replace an unknown with a fabricated requirement such as “win three runs.”
What will be checked at full release?
The first release check is whether the published starter pair, roster, resource values and perk conditions still match the released game. Exact unlocks require current evidence, and a starter-item or threshold change must update the affected hero guide as well as this comparison table.
This reference is based on official-source research, not installed-game tests. Sources checked November 4, 2026: heroes, FAQ and demo scope, and October 27 demo-end announcement.
